Afghanistan War
7 October 2001 – 20 August 2021
The Afghanistan War (7th October 2001 to 20th August 2021) was a direct result of the 11th September 2001 terrorist attacks (9/11) and consisted of three main phases.
Firstly, the defeat of the Taliban’s political and religious leadership.
Secondly, the defeat of the Taliban militarily and to rebuild infrastructure.
Thirdly, to protect Afghans from Taliban attacks and to build a gradual handover of security responsibility to the Afghan police and military leading to a gradual withdrawal of foreign forces after 20 years.
